Brief history of the Sherman (and Firefly)
Everybody knows about the Sherman tank. It was the standard Allied tank in the latter part of WWII. You may remember how it was immortalised by the character 'Oddball', played by Donald Sutherland, in the war film Kelly's Heroes. After seeing the film, I just had to have one! The Allies turned them out in their thousands with umpteen variants. The Sherman was the backbone tank of allied forces in WWII. Although very reliable its armour was weak and it was equipped with a small low velocity gun. There is little doubt that all of its crews were heroes after facing the German tanks as they did. Not until after the British fitted the Sherman with a 17 Pounder gun was it able to take on the Panthers and Tigers and even then it had to get the first hit in order to survive. One shot from either one of those German tanks and it was kaput for the Sherman! Conversely, the Germans with their superior armour, still had a chance even if hit first. Nevertheless, what would the Allies have done without them? When you see one run they are loud, very tall with a big white star on the side of the turret that shouts, "shoot me here". We may soon offer you a 1/6th Sherman Firefly that will give all those Tigers out there something to worry about! Beware all those Tigers with their Wittman figures, especially if they are number 007! Be careful not to get stuck in the mud, as their 1/6th scale tracks are narrower than the 1/8th Panther's! Better get your boots out again!

Sherman Firefly 1/6th
The hull is constructed of high density GRP, the wheels are all duralumium with rubber tyres. Suspension units are cast aluminium, bronze and steel with coil sprung suspension. The Gearbox case is cast aluminium. Gears are of Thermo treated steel, with a chain drive reduction to the drive sprockets. There are over 70 bearings in each Tank. The performance of these Tanks needs to be seen to be believed, being very powerful and robust. Maintenance is minimal. The tracks are a Zinc/Aluminium cast construction, with hard steel pins. Performance is 3 to 5 mph depending on gearing choice, climbing 50-degree slopes with ease, and a 15cm wall. Will ford water up to 30cm, with waterproof electronics.

Smoke Control Unit

Produces a puff of smoke on start up, which decreasing to nothing on tickover. As you drive the tank, the smoke increases gradually with the amount of throttle you use.
